Sylane Mack, M.S.

President, Principal Speaker, Lead Counselor, Author

Sylane MackComing from a background of horrendous emotional, physical and sexual abuse, Sylane is unflinchingly convinced that GOD is greater than our greatest pains, shames and fears. With passionate strength, vulnerability, wisdom and humor Sylane shares her own life journey, opening up the power of Scripture — God’s living and active Word — for all who will hear, or read, what God has given her to tell!

Sylane first began sharing her faith publicly as a teen at Lay Witness Mission events in the early 1970s. From the 1980s through early 2003 Sylane ministered and worked professionally in private counseling agencies and teaching in public schools. Her academic work has earned her Degrees and Certificates in various areas:

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology, Psychology and Spanish — Keuka College and State University of NY at Potsdam, 1980
  • Master of Science Degree in Education/Learning-Reading Specialist — California State University at Fullerton, 1990
  • Counseling Certificates: Individual, Family, Crisis Intervention, Group Dynamics and Substance Abuse Intervention — NY State
  • Teaching Certificates: Spanish, English, Social Studies, Reading Specialist (She has taught French, too!)

During these years, God grew Sylane in her love for Jesus, her love for people, and her knowledge, understanding and passion for God’s Word. Often invited to tell her story — God’s story –-Sylane spoke at retreats, conferences, pastoral/leadership programs and outreach events. Wherever she lived — NY, France, CA, PA, NJ — Sylane led (and still leads) weekly Bible studies.

On February 5, 2003, God called Sylane to take an unexpected step (jump!) of faith as she prayed with and heeded the counsel of two wise and loving Pastors: She should develop her own Incorporated Ministry — tied to no specific denomination, but solidly and powerfully rooted in the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the testimony of God’s Word. Through God’s plan, power and love the ministry of Transformed by Grace was born! By March 6, 2003 TBG was incorporated, established with a full and fabulous Board of Directors!

Sylane has also served as Assistant Chaplain on the National Board of Advisors for the Black African-American Association of Christian Counselors (BAACC) from 2010-2012.

It is with love, conviction and passion that Sylane lives out her God-given calling to tell others the truth — crossing denominational, cultural, economic, gender, age, ethnic and linguistic boundaries — about the unlimited, unfailing love and transforming grace of Jesus Christ!

Sylane and Tim (married since 1980!) live in Princeton — nicely situated between two great cities: Philadelphia and New York. Their two daughters and their sons-in-love all live and work in NYC, along with their most recent family addition – their first grandson. Travel, hiking, biking, eating and being at the ocean are favorites for her — and always enhanced by the presence of close family and friends!

Sylane has written two books, with two different hard copy versions:                Convinced! and ¡Convencida! – the Spanish translation                                              Grace Moments – with pages for journaling and Grace Moments – travel version
Both Convinced! and Grace Moments are on Kindle. And Grace Moments is available as an APP.

Heather Chabin, M.S.

Counselor

Heather Chabin - photo 2015 Heather Chabin grew up in Massachusetts where she lived until she moved to Pennsylvania to attend college in 1997. Heather attended Philadelphia Biblical University where she earned a BA in the Bible and studied youth ministry, and then went on to complete a Masterʼs degree in Christian Counseling. She is now licensed as a Therapist in the state of New Jersey where she works full time as a utilization care manager for Beacon Health with Horizon Blue Cross/Blue Shield NJ, completing ongoing care assessments for patients who are in mental health or substance abuse treatment.

Heather has worked in the counseling field for the past 15 years and has worked with children, youth, and their families doing wrap around treatment. She also worked in the Trenton school district as a school-based therapist and as a therapist in a partial day program in Trenton where she gained experience working with grief and loss, family issues, drug addiction, trauma and persistent mental illness. She was also the coordinator of clinical services at a crisis pregnancy ministry working with women facing unplanned pregnancies, offering them hope and support.

Heather met her husband in college and has been married since 2001, and they have two beautiful boys. As a family they enjoy spending time in the outdoors and share a love for music. Heather has experienced first hand the pain that comes from depression, loss and abuse. She can also attest to the fact that God is so much bigger than any problem we face, and He has enabled her to share with others the freedom that comes from His amazing grace.

Matt Coffman, M.S.

Counselor

Matt Coffman picMatt grew up in a small town in Central Pennsylvania, and remained there until relocating to attend college. At Cairn University Matthew studied both Jewish culture and custom, with intensive biblical application. He then received a BS in Bible, with an emphasis in Discipleship Counseling, and an MS in Counseling, finishing his degree with an Advanced Specialization in Counseling.

Matthew immediately started working in the counseling field after college in a wrap-around environment, where he was quickly hired on full-time. He enjoys the work that he does, and has learned a great deal working with children. He is passionate about helping people and leading them towards Christ; he finds joy in helping others understand their emotions and how they can use those to worship the Lord.

When Matthew isn’t counseling he can be found spending time with friends, playing the piano, or researching. He is so excited about the direction that God is leading him, and encouraged by the astounding beauty that the Lord reveals to him daily.

Barbara Durning-McHenry, B.A.

Counselor

There is nothing that Barbara is more passionate about than reading and sharing the Word of God. She first came to know Transformed By Grace many years ago through counseling and was delighted that the living Word of God, which continually transforms her, was spoken to her through this ministry.

Barbara was born in Cherry Hill, NJ, and moved to Memphis, TN in middle school. She graduated from The University of Memphis, where she earned her Bachelors degree in Psychology. After graduation, she moved back home to Yardley PA, and started taking graduate courses in psychology at Holy Family College.

Barbara brings 20 years’ experience in corporate settings, specializing in Employee Relations Counseling and Conflict Resolution. Through her innate gift of counsel, she loves bringing insight, wisdom, understanding and finding common ground. She found herself giving testimony in the work place, and told God that she wanted to serve him more deeply with purpose in mission and ministry work. Through His Word, God made it clear to Barbara that she was to use the gifts He gave her of wisdom and her voice to serve Him as a counselor.

Over the years, Barbara has experienced the pains of divorce, dealing with challenging custody issues, and being a single mother for many years. And, over the years, Barbara has experienced the joys of teaching religious education to 2nd graders and serving as a group leader in the woman’s bible study at her church. Barbara’s greatest joy of all is being a Mom and spending time with her precious teenage son.

Barbara is excited to share God’s Word to bring about the transformative power of hope, healing, and spiritual growth that she experienced in her life, and that only God can do. In her free time, Barbara can be found playing games with her family, being on the water, reading the Bible and having coffee with friends.

Oren L Harris, M.S.

Counselor

Oren grew up in Jamaica in a dysfunctional home, in a dysfunctional culture, where he witnessed his Mom betrayed sexually by his Dad with two different women, and producing 6 siblings outside of his sister and himself. This experience shaped his life and gave him a sensitivity for love, relationships and women’s pain.

It wasn’t until age 31, after he had made several relationship blunders following in the footsteps of his dad, that Jesus arrested him on the New York City streets one night. Oren realized his nothingness, and saw how close he came to destroying his wife Joan, now married for 42 years. The event so impacted his life with the knowledge of God, that it made him look at all his life in terms of relationships: first, vertically with the Jesus who arrested – rescued – him; and, secondly, his relationships horizontally, starting with Joan.

Oren’s work-life quickly and steadily moved from the ego-centric IBM salesman to ministry as he saw how there is nothing impossible for God. He adopted that mind set, and shifted into a ministry focused on relationship problems. Oren does not give up on a relationship problem because He trusts God, who doesn’t give up on us.

In 1990 Oren felt called by the Lord to attend colleges and get ordained as a pastor in the United Methodist Church and the Free Methodist Church. His studies included:
Cairn University
BS Biblical studies
Graduated 1994

New Brunswick Theological Seminary
Attended 1995 pursuing MDIV

Attended Carin University – MS in Counseling, 1995
Stevens Institute
Hoboken, New Jersey
Graduated 1996, MS Management, Thesis on Relationship/Communications:
SIITM – Spirituality In Information Technology Management

Throughout his years as a Pastor, Oren was always drawn to relationships. He came to realize the church was not able to focus on the deep relational love needs of its people. To help fulfill this critical need, Oren began focusing more on counseling, first within the church, and eventually becoming accredited.

Oren has past affiliation with AACC (American Association Of Christian Counselors) and IBCC (International Brotherhood If Christian Counselors). He established MOWDIDELLER (Ministry on Wheels Damsels in Distress Experiencing Long Lasting and Enjoyable Relationship) Counseling.

Oren’s book, derived from his thesis SIITM (Spirituality In Information Technology Management), became “The ELLER Model: Finding Love Perfectly, Love Flow² – published in May 2018. As a hand book, it highlights both sides of Love and Relationship problems – Finding Love and Keeping Love Flowing. A model because the Bible is a model to us. Finding Love PERFECTLY, because with Jesus in your heart and following him, everyone can Find Love Perfectly. And the best part is, by following the Model, relationship tragedies can be turned into overcoming triumph because of Empowerment…Hope for all!!

Oren and Joan now live as empty-nesters and love spending time with their daughter and three grandkids. Their son, a good uncle, was killed in a car accident when returning home after babysitting. Oren and Joan heard the news as Joan was coming back from a weekend of ministry to join Oren as he was headed to preach. This event is the single most life-challenging event that demonstrates Oren’s love for his Lord, his trust in him, and his ability to overcome trials and challenges. This tragedy moved Oren to more deeply believe that marriage and relational challenges are opportunities to teach and demonstrate overcoming.

Oren and Joan found love in Jamaica on a tennis court. They both still enjoy tennis, counseling together, fellowship within the body of Christ and family time.

Cindy will begin serving as Administrative Assistant and Counseling Coordinator in July 2017.

Beautiful Colorado was home for Cindy until 1999, when she and her husband and two children relocated to Pennsylvania. Her family moved from Iowa to the Philadelphia area in 1997. She relocated, hopefully for the last time, to Florida in 2016. Geraldine Isme, M.S.

Counselor

TBG Headshots-3 Geraldine was born and raised in Trenton, NJ, and is currently residing in Chesterfield, NJ. She graduated from Bloomfield College with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. A few years later Geraldine earned her Masters Degree in Human Services from Rider University.

After that, Geraldine felt a calling to serve in the counseling/therapy field and attended the College of New Jersey where she received a degree as an Education Specialist in the field of Marriage and Family Therapy.

Geraldine felt the call to reach people through counseling at her first job out of college. Her experience as a counselor at Anchor House, a shelter for runaways, ignited her drive and passion to assist and encourage others in the area of crisis and conflict. From that point on, she continued to earn education credits and served in a variety of positions, including as a therapist, an outreach counselor, and as an education specialist.

Currently, Geraldine is continuing her counseling work by serving with Transformed by Grace ministries while working on receiving her NJ LMFT license. Her passion for people, positive energy, and sense of fun are also made evident in the way she serves in the local church where she mentors teens and teaches dance to their youth and young adult dance ministries.

Geraldine’s favorite scripture is Philippians 1:6 “He that began a good work in you shall complete it until the day of Christ’s return.”

Pascuala (Paz) Shroyer, M.S.

Counselor, Bilingual English and Spanish

FullSizeRender[3]Pascuala (Paz) was born and raised in Mexico City. She lived there until she moved to the United States after she was married. She was married for twenty-five years, where she was a stay at home mother of four children. Paz recently completed a dual program of Bachelors and Masters at Cairn University, where she earned her Bible and Christian Counseling degree. Paz completed her Counseling internship at Place of Refuge in Philadelphia as a therapist. She gained experience working with loss, trauma, depression, anxiety, and couples’ counseling. She also volunteers at ChoiceOne, serving those experiencing unplanned pregnancies. Here she oversees the Spanish community and aids in translating. Paz is involved in her church and oversees a grief ministry there. She also works with 5th and 6th grade children teaching a Sunday School Class.

Paz met her husband in Mexico City and has four sons. Her husband passed away from a brain tumor, and through this she experienced a great amount of grief. This grief has led her to searching for a way to give back and the Lord has led her to this place where she is able to aid other adults who are going through loss. Through her brokenness, and her abuse endured as a child, Paz has found a way to empathize with others and give others hope and comfort that she has received through the Lord.

Paz loves classical music, reading books, walking on the beach and reading God’s word.
