January 10–Take a Walk for Life!

When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. And after he became the father of Methuselah. Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.

Genesis 5:21-24

By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before Enoch was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Hebrews 11:5-6

Enoch walked with God. Wow. What an amazing thing to be said about a person.

What was going on with Enoch that he became known for walking with God? We don’t know a whole lot about Enoch, but in these couple of Scriptures much can be understood.

I think there may have been some deep turning point of faith for Enoch when he became a daddy to Methuselah.  He was 65 years old…lived to be 365 years old…and the Scripture reads: “After he became the father of Methusaleh he walked with God for 300 years…”

Something life changing, perspective changing seemed to happen to Enoch at the birth of his child…some awakening of awe and thankfulness in the gift of life that he saw so clearly in his newborn baby…some powerful pull on his mind and soul that made Enoch realize that the Giver of Life was near and wanted to walk with him.

And Enoch did. He sought God earnestly…and God was found because He always is near. Enoch wanted to be in intimate relationship with God—to walk with Him. But this wasn’t just a short-lived spurt of emotion that had Enoch seeking and walking intimately with God only for a little while as so often accompanies a life changing event—whether that is a birth or a death…or any other human experience in between these two extremes.

No. Enoch was moved by an earnest faith that acknowledges the truth of God as the Giver of Life and as the God who is Ever Present. And Enoch grabbed hold of God’s hand to take a walk with Him and he didn’t let go…and God never let go of Enoch.

God is always faithful. God is always near. Reach out in faith; take God’s hand…and take a walk for life!
