June 10–From Humility to Eternity!

Six weeks can fly by so quickly or six weeks can seem like an eternity.

Six weeks–17 years ago–was the time it took to bring my mom to a much needed humility so that she would be brought into the eternity she would share with Jesus. And with me.

Mom was both victim and perpetrator of the ugly, evil abuse–physical, sexual and emotional–we suffered in my home. And 17 years ago, God clearly and tangibly answered a prayer I had started passionately praying about 19 years before that.

God moved me and empowered me to FORGIVE my mom and my dad when I was about 13 years old. God also moved me and empowered me to seriously begin praying for them—and my whole familiy—that each one would know the love, forgiveness and eternal salvation of our Lord Jesus.

At that same time, God also moved me and empowered me to write a letter to my mom and dad. In that letter I called abuse: “abuse” and incest: “incest.” I also told them that I completely forgave them. That I loved them. And that I wanted them to know Jesus as their Savior and Lord because I do NOT want to be eternally separated from them.

Neither the letter nor my forgiveness—nor my love…nor my wanting them to know Jesus as their Savior and Lord…nor my NOT wanting to be eternally separated from them—was exactly well-received.

Many years of heart-break for my parents and continued hurt from my parents followed. Many tears and many prayers were passionately offered up for my mom and dad’s hearts to turn to Jesus. I desperately wanted them, and all of my family, to recognize how desperate they are—how desperate we ALL are—for our Holy, Eternal, Loving God. Our Only Savior.

And then April 29–June 10, 1992 came. Six weeks of horrendous suffering for my mom as she was put in the hospital with ovarian cancer, already fully metastasized throughout all of her organs, brain and blood. My mom was 59 years old and her death certificate would soon be written.

But NOT before our Loving, Holy, Forgiving, Saving Lord Jesus would write my mom’s name in His Book of Life with His blood offered for the forgiveness of her sins. The same blood that Jesus shed for the forgiveness of my sins. For yours.

My mom had to humbly and helplessly come face to face with her need for forgiveness and eternal salvation. Those six weeks were a time of deep physical suffering and incredible vulnerability for my mom. But it saved her life for all eternity.

God lovingly and graciously gave my mom those six weeks of hospital time—where my siblings (all having accepted Christ by that time) and many other Christians intimately surrounded her and prayed for her to know Jesus.

My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear. My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly.

I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning.

My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body. I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart.

All my longings lie open before You, O Lord; my sighing is not hidden from You.

I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin. Psalm 38:4-8, 18

Three days before my mom died, while with the Jesus-serving Hospital Chaplain, my mom asked for the forgiveness of her sins and accepted the gift of eternal salvation that Jesus alone can give! Do I hear an “AMEN!” out there?

My mom is free. Her humility before God brought her into eternity with Him. And through the love of Jesus, my mom and I will NOT be eternally separated. We will be together. And we will share in a love relationship we never knew here on earth.

All this is because of who Jesus Christ is and what He has done for us. We all need the same blood and sacrifice of Jesus. We all need the same death-defying, resurrection power to bring us to our heavenly, eternal home with Jesus Christ our Lord–our Holy God.

Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now He has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in His sight, without blemish and free from accusation—Colossians 1:21-24

How great is our God! How unlimited God is in Love, Mercy and Power! From humility before our God we are moved into eternity with Him!

Do you know where and with whom you’ll be for all eternity?

Jesus is here. Ask Him to forgive you. Ask Him to be your Savior. His answer is already, “Yes!” You just need to ask and believe.

In love, peace and purposeful passion,                                                               Sylane
