KNOW! PSALM 100 – part 3

So, what do you know?

Growing up I often heard my Grandpa greet his friends and customers (he sold Watkins Products in his later years) with that phrase, “So, what do you know?” instead of the more usual, “Hello! How are you?”

I thought it was a pretty funny way to greet somebody, but I was always curious to hear how his friends and customers, especially the old-timers, would answer that question. Some did so seriously, some with a bit of news, some with a bit of humor:

“The old arthritis is kickin’ up a bit.” “Fishin’s good right now.” “I’m still alive, and that’s darn good to know!” “Spectin’ more rain soon.” “Hazel’s feeling better now after doin’ so poorly all winter.” “I’m still better lookin’ than you. Always will be.”

So, what do you know? What do I know? Whatever it is – whether it is knowledge we have gained from earning a PhD in Nuclear Physics or knowledge we have gained through years of playing rip-roaring games of Tic-Tac-Toe – it pales in comparison to what our God wants us to know. And what we need to know.

Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. – Psalm 100:3

Amazing. God wants us to know Him and know who we are to Him. The Lord our God is so completely sovereign over us and yet so incredibly intimate with us, all at the same time.

Do we live like we know that the Lord is God – the Holy One over all creation?

Do we live like we know that our very breath, our very life – and everything that we are as human beings – was given to us and made for us by the Lord our God?

Do we live like we know that we are the Lord’s precious, deeply and eternally loved people?

Do we live like we know that we are not alone?

Do we live like we know that we truly belong to the Lord our God?

Do we live like we know that we have a place forever in the heart of our Heavenly Abba?

Do we live like we know that we are His sheep – and were made to follow Him?

Do we live like we know that He is our Shepherd, Savior, Leader, King, Provider, Protector?

Do we live like we know that living in the truth that our God is always with us, always loving us – no matter what we may be experiencing – is our safe pasture?

Knowledge truly is power, divine power, when it comes to knowing that the Lord is God!

God’s divine power has given us everything we need for [life and godliness] a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. – 2 Peter 1:3

May the Lord our God reveal to each of us – through His Word and by His Holy Spirit – a fuller, deeper knowledge of who He is and who we are to Him! And may each of us choose to live our lives empowered and led by this God-given, life-transforming knowledge!
