March 27

Our God knows that our circumstances can sometimes be hard, horrible, heart-breaking or just plain annoying and crazy-making at times. Yet, in every moment and in every experience of our lives, our God wants to be our strength.

Don’t rush past that thought too quickly. Our God wants to be our strength. And our God wants to give us His strength-bringing joy!

The LORD is my strength [and my song] and my defense. – Exodus 15:2

The LORD is my strength and my shield. – Psalm 28:7

God is our refuge and strength. – Psalm 46:1

God is the strength of my heart. – Psalm 73:26

The Sovereign LORD is my strength. – Habakkuk 3:19

…for the joy of the LORD is your strength. – Nehemiah 8:10

Truly, our God is our strength. In our frail, flawed and finite selves, our God is our strength! Our God never ceases to reach out to us in His strong and eternal love. Our God never tires. And our God never tires of us. Our God – our God’s joy – is our strength. And God wants us to choose His strength-bringing joy for our own lives, right in the midst of our most maddening, unimaginable and unexpected struggles.

God calls out to each one of us to let Him and His joy be our strength. God calls us to look beyond our own limited perceptions of our particular circumstances. We can’t understand all things fully. Not here. Not now. God calls us to look beyond our own limited mental, physical and spiritual capacities and resources. We don’t have the unlimited reserves to manage all things on our own. We were never meant to.

God knows that our strength will come, and be renewed, as we focus our minds and hearts on Him – on our loving, eternal, almighty Lord – and receive the blessings of His strength and His strength-bringing joy!
