Two times over this past week I read what I consider to be very optimistic signs which stated: Temporarily Out of Order.
I like that. The things upon which this sign was displayed were not to be discarded, nor were they to be considered as permanently out of order. There was hope for them yet! They were only Temporarily Out of Order.
So, there’s hope for me, too. There’s hope for all of us, always, who trust our eternal lives over to the King of kings and Lord of lords, our Savior Jesus Christ! We will walk through this life where all things – including our bodies and our relationships break down and suffer. But in Jesus Christ, we are only temporarily out of order!
We won’t always be broken. We won’t always have to struggle with temptation and sin. We won’t always have to suffer from disease and death. We won’t always have to face crises and deal with the evil within our world, within our country, within our neighborhoods, within our churches, within our families, and within ourselves. Our Lord Jesus Christ has rescued us and redeemed us from the dominion of darkness and the power of sin! We are only temporarily out of order!
…[that you] may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. – Colossians 1:11-14
What a great and amazing hope we have in Jesus! We can hold onto the glorious promise that all things will yet be made new – for all eternity! We can hold onto the glorious promise that the old order of things, that are temporarily out of order, will pass away!
Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” – Revelation 21:1-4
Thanks be to our almighty God who makes all things new! Our Lord redeems and transforms all of us who trust in Jesus as Savior! Our God has promised that the old order of things – all that we experience here on this earth as temporarily out of order – will pass away and leave no trace. All things will be made new for all eternity!
He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. – Revelation 22:20
