I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. – Galatians 2:20
Let’s make this personal. God did.
Because of His unfailing, pursuing, passionate love, Jesus – God’s holy and perfect Son – gave His life for you. For me. Because of His absolute and extravagant humility, Jesus obeyed His Heavenly Abba even to the point of choosing to die a cruel and shameful death for you. For me. Because of His incomprehensible, almighty power, Jesus rose from the dead and conquered sin and death to give eternal life to you. To me. And the resurrected, eternally sovereign Lord Jesus chooses to live in you, and in me – through the person and presence of His Holy Spirit – so that neither sin nor death will ever have any more power to rule over, condemn or destroy you and your life or me and my life. Ever again.
Jesus has put the person and presence of His Holy Spirit within each of us who is His child by faith and His follower by choice. And the Spirit of our Lord Jesus wants to take up our entire beings and transform our entire lives so that we will more truly and authentically reflect the unfailing, pursuing, passionate love of Jesus. More truly and authentically reflect the absolute and extravagant humility of Jesus. More truly and authentically reflect the incomprehensible, almighty power of our resurrected, eternally sovereign Lord Jesus.
Each one of us who has accepted Jesus Christ by faith – who has trusted in His salvation for the forgiveness of our sins and His sure promise of eternal life – has been given the Spirit of the Living God to live within him and her, right now. This, then, should make all the difference in how we live, right now. The Spirit of the Living Christ living within us should make all the difference in how we are known. The Spirit of the Living Christ living within us should make all the difference in how we are perceived by other people – no matter how fleeting or long-lasting our interactions and relationships with them may be. The Holy Spirit of the Living God is alive. God’s Spirit is never meant to lie dormant within us. Never meant to be diminished nor dismissed. God’s Spirit is entitled and empowered to take up Christ’s full loving, humble, and powerful rule over our thoughts, our words, and the tone of our words. The Spirit of the Living Christ is entitled and empowered to take up His full loving, humble, and powerful rule over our actions, reactions, interactions, and, even, over our body language and facial expressions.
The Spirit of the Living God is entitled and empowered to conform and transform each one of us – each of us who is God’s child by faith and His follower by choice – into the likeness and image of our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29). Let’s choose to give God’s Spirit, the Christ who lives in us, more elbow room in each of our lives – in all that we are, in all that we think, in all that we say, in all that we do, in all that we express in any and every way.
May it be the living Christ who is more and more clearly known and perceived by others as they get to know and form their perceptions about each of us. May we each choose, actively and intentionally, to give the Spirit of the Living Christ more and more elbow room to fully live and love, celebrate and serve within us and through us and, even, in spite of us! All for the glory of our God and King!
