The One who breaks open the way will go up before them; they will break through the gate and go out. Their king will pass through before them, the LORD at their head. – Micah 2:13
I love this! The One – the King, the Lord, the Messiah, our God, our Savior Jesus Christ – breaks open the way so that we will break through and go out, following Him at our head! What freedom! What victory! What joy!
Our Mighty God has broken open for us the most destructive, life-threatening barrier that keeps us from knowing true peace and eternal life. Our Lord Jesus Christ has broken open the gates of captivity and condemnation. Our King has broken open the very gates of hell – whose doors, that close in on us, are named: sin and death.
Jesus Christ, through His death for our sins and His resurrection for our lives, has broken open these gates for us. And the power of sin and death has been conquered. For all eternity.
Now, it is our choice. Will we accept this life-giving, life-forgiving, life-transforming truth and follow Jesus as the King who goes before us, as the Head over all of our lives? Will we choose to accept the freedom and the power our Lord Jesus offers us so that we, too, may break through the gate and go out?
C.S. Lewis once wrote that, “The gates of hell are locked from the inside.”
Think about where and how you may be keeping yourself locked inside your own personal hell. Think about where and how you may be keeping yourself from trusting and living in the great freedom and victory already secured for each of us through the love and sacrifice of Jesus.
It’s up to us to choose to trust and live in the truth of God’s Word that declares that our Lord Jesus has fully broken open these gates. It’s up to us to choose to let God help us break through all of the lies and the hurts, the sin and the shame, the fear and the pride that keep us locked inside our own hell.
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. – Galatians 5:1
Freedom and victory, life and peace have already been fully and eternally opened to us by the One – the King, the Lord, the Messiah, our God, our Savior Jesus Christ! Jesus has broken the yokes of slavery created by all of our sin, shame, wounds, bitterness, fear, pride, pain and past. We don’t have to stay locked in by anything we have done or by anything that has been done to us.
May we each recognize the power of this truth and put our trust in Jesus who opens the way for us to live in His freedom and victory – right now and in each new day yet to come. May each of us choose to follow the One who goes before us so that we will break through and go out with joy, purpose, and passion!
