Transformed by grace! For each of us who has placed our trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior, that’s what we are. Transformed by grace! Well, that’s what we are from the eternal plane and perspective, from God’s view of us, anyway.

For God has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. – Colossians 1:13-14

Wow! Take a minute. Now take a few more, and think about what this means. Really means.

Through the love and sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ, we have been rescued out of the captivity and condemnation of the dominion of darkness. We have been brought fully and safely into the presence of, and into a restored and reconciled relationship with, our Eternal Holy King. We are fully forgiven. We are brought fully to life as a child of the Living God – for now and for all eternity. We are transformed by grace!

Does this rescue, does this eternal transformation, really change anything for me in the here and now? Does it change how I think? How I speak? How I act? How I interact with others – with all others? Does it change how and what I do in public? Does it change how and what I do in private? Would anyone be able to see that I’ve been rescued and transformed by grace?

Does Jesus really make a difference in who I am? Does who I am in Jesus make a difference to those around me? Do I look and act transformed? How deep is this transformation in my life? Does it only go to my superficial level? To my comfort level? To my go to church, offer my tithe, say some prayers, read my Bible level? Or does this radical, outrageous act of Jesus dying on the cross to rescue me from the dominion of darkness transform me in radical, outrageous ways?

I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. – Romans 12:1-2

We each have a choice to make as to how we will respond to the mercy of God – how we will respond to the radical, outrageous love of Jesus Christ that rescued us from the dominion of darkness in order to bring us to Himself and His eternal kingdom. And we have to make these mercy-of-God response choices every single day, and many times throughout the day. Will we let the truth that we have been transformed – and will continually be transformed – by grace make any true and living difference in the way we live our lives?

What choices are you making in your thoughts, words and actions and in your relationships that are keeping you from living out the full truth that you have been rescued from the dominion of darkness? Let God assure you of His radical, outrageous love for you. God only and always wants the very best for you. And being transformed by grace is God’s most radical, outrageous work of love in our lives!
