As we read reflectively through Psalm 23, a few verses at a time, I pray that our God will lead each of us to know what living the truth of His Word means for each of our days. Whether it is a day of sadness, surprises, simplicity or celebration.

…and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. – Psalm 23:6

Wow! A permanent address! We are welcomed to enter in and take up permanent residence in our Abba’s house as His very beloved children. For me, as one who has lived a very nomadic life (living in at least fourteen homes since 1980, and currently living bi-coastally), the idea of settling into a forever home is deeply meaningful and beautifully hope-filled.

The Living God, our eternal Lord and Shepherd, invites us to dwell with Him forever. God wants us to know how deeply He loves us and how fully we belong to Him. God wants us home. God wants us to know the transforming truth that we are eternally part of His family.

Ahhhhh…home. Home is where the heart is. And God’s heart, filled with unfailing love for us, beckons each and every one of us to come home to Him. Come home to His love, His grace, His truth. Come home – for all eternity – to the only place where our burdens are gone, our lives are fully set free and we are our truest, purest selves. Forever.

Home. We, whose hearts hold Jesus as our Savior, have moved our dwelling place to be, now and forever, with our Lord and Shepherd. We, whose hearts hold Jesus as our Savior, have been given God’s Holy Spirit to live within us – assuring us that we are His and He is ours. Assuring us that God Himself is our home. Assuring us that one day we each will be fully and finally home. All of us, whose hearts hold Jesus as our Savior, are given the absolute promise that death does not have the final word. Rather, through the resurrection power of our Almighty God, we will enter into the fullness of our Lord and Shepherd’s unveiled, perfect, beautiful and loving presence. We will arrive safely, joyfully home! Ahhhhh…home.

What about you? Do you know where your eternal dwelling place will be? Do you know how to get home to Abba, to the Lord and Shepherd? Is your heart at home with Jesus? If not, today is a very good day for you to move. For you to change your permanent dwelling place to God’s home. Invite Jesus to be your Savior. Acknowledge that you need to be forgiven for all your sins. Believe that Jesus, who is “the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6), has made a way home for you through His death and resurrection! Trust Jesus. You will be welcomed home by our Lord and our Shepherd with love, forgiveness, freedom and joy!

Read, again, today’s verse:

…and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. – Psalm 23:6

Ahhhhh…home. Forever.
