There is nothing weak about love. There is nothing frail, flawed or finite about love. There is nothing weak about our God. There are no frailties or flaws in our all-powerful, eternal God.
God cannot fail. God will not fail. God is love. And God’s love will never fail.
Love never fails. – 1 Corinthians 13:8
We each must decide if we really believe this. As individuals, we each need to answer:
Do I really believe that God’s love has never and will never fail me? Do I believe…? That God’s love really is big enough to heal all of my wounds? To drive away all of my fears? To crush all of my doubts, confront all of my pride? That God’s love is big enough to strengthen me in every way and in every circumstance – whenever, wherever and however I need to be strengthened? That God’s love is big enough to forgive me of all of my sins and take away all of my shame? That God’s love is big enough to hold me tightly and gently during those times I can’t love God, anybody else or even myself? That God’s love is big enough to renew me, restore me and transform me to be more and more like Jesus – no matter what I’ve done, said and thought?
If you and I are able to answer, “Yes, I do believe!” – even if we have to, honestly and quickly, add, “Help me overcome my unbelief!” (as did the man in Mark 9:24) – then, you and I each need to answer this:
What am I going to do about it? How will I think differently? Speak differently? Act differently? Interact differently? What will I do if I truly believe that God’s love will never fail?
Love never fails. And this eternal truth from our Almighty God should make a difference in the way we live our lives in every possible way.
In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. – Romans 8:37
God’s love does indeed have the final, unfailing word over all our heartaches and hard times, our sin and shame, our falsehood and failures, our loss and loneliness, our suffering and sadness. And that word through Jesus is: Victory!
Love never fails.
