Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. – Ephesians 6:10
Only in God’s strength and mighty power can we truly be strong. Only in God’s strength and mighty power can we conquer the situations in our lives that would twist our minds, destroy our peace and wreak havoc in our relationships with God and with others.
Only in God’s strength and mighty power, made known to us by His love, Word and Spirit, are we able to live the lives God intends for us to live. Only in God’s strength and mighty power are we able to face the most difficult, challenging and painful experiences of our lives with hope, peace and courage. Only in God’s strength and mighty power are we able to face the most mundane and monotonous days of our lives with purpose, joy and thanksgiving.
The truth is: We are just as desperate for and dependent on God’s strength and mighty power to hold us, empower us and encourage us every day of our lives. No matter what our days may bring. We are no more desperate for or dependent on God’s strength and mighty power when our lives seem to be in the midst of absolute madness and chaos than we are when our lives seem to be going sweetly with some semblance of order and ease.
Our God never changes. Neither does our need for God’s strength and mighty power. And the pathway for receiving these never changes either. It is never about us “bucking up” in our own strength or in our own power. No. It is always about becoming “a bucket” to receive what we so desperately need from our God. The pathway through which God’s strength and mighty power are released into our lives is always through humility before our God, trust in our God, and obedience in doing things God’s way.
This is the same pathway Jesus walked. A pathway marked by extravagant humility, absolute trust and sacrificial obedience before His Heavenly Father. It is this pathway that brought Jesus to walk among us here on earth, to walk to His death on the cross and to walk out of that grave as the strong and mighty King of glory!
Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. – Psalm 24:8
It was in humility, trust and obedience to His Father that Jesus looked beyond His suffering and the fierce and brutal battle He had to fight against sin and death on our behalf. And in the humility, trust and obedience of Jesus, we are called to keep…
…fixing our eyes on Jesus, [the author] the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. – Hebrews 12:2
The victorious strength and mighty power of our God are fully available to each of us every day of our lives. We need only to walk on the pathway Jesus forged for us by His humility, trust and obedience!
