Oh, those But God! scriptures! They are powerful, perspective-changing challenges. They are life-transforming promises. Let’s reflect on a few of these “But God!” verses just a little bit more.
You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. – Genesis 50:20
This verse, in particular, fills my soul with such deep assurance of God’s loving sovereignty, His intimate care and His ability to absolutely astound us with His goodness and power to transform lives in spite of the horrendous evil and brokenness they may have experienced. I experienced deep harm and abuse as a child. I planned suicide. But God!
But God made Himself known to me by His Word and His Spirit.
But God gave His Son Jesus to die for me and forgive all my sins.
But God gave me eternal life, and one day I’ll live in the fullness of His presence.
But God empowered me to forgive my abusers because Jesus had already died for them, too.
But God renews me continually by His Word and Spirit.
But God holds me and transforms me by His grace and truth.
But God guards my mind and heart in His transcending peace.
But God gives me the joy and hope He intended me to have from the moment of my birth.
But God gives me courage to follow Him, love Him, love others and love myself.
But God convinced me of, and continually fills and strengthens me with, His unfailing love.
Ahhhhh! But God can make such a difference – such an eternal difference – in a life! And this is true even as I recognize and embrace the truth of my human mortality.
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. – Psalm 73:26
My flesh and my heart not only may fail, they will fail. (And some parts are failing already!)
But God is the strength of my heart! But God is my portion forever! My flesh and my heart may-will fail. But God encourages me! But God fills all of my deepest, truest heart needs!
But God is always loving!
But God is always present!
But God is always forgiving!
But God is always faithful!
But God is always good!
But God is my wisdom!
But God is my peace!
But God is my hope!
But God is my joy!
But for God, I would be lost. All of us would be. But God wasn’t about to let that happen! He gave His Son to give His life for us. To give us true life. Eternal life. No buts about it!
