…brothers and sisters, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you. May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance. – 2 Thessalonians 3:1, 5
I am so thankful that the apostle Paul knew how much he constantly needed prayer in order to do what our Holy God had asked him to do. That honest and humble need for prayer is so true for all of us who follow Jesus Christ. I desperately need prayer. Always. I need to set aside time in prayer by myself with my Heavenly Abba. I need to be in a continual prayer conversation with my God throughout my entire day – for every thing I do and for every interaction I have with every other person. And I need, real and regular, prayer support, encouragement, and strength from my brothers and sisters in Christ.
None of us who are on this faith journey, who are called as ambassadors of Christ, are meant to be lone individuals acting alone to accomplish the task God has given us: To spread the message of Christ’s love, grace and truth. For this we need God. And we need each other.
We have the sure promise that the Lord’s presence, love, grace, eternal encouragement, good hope, and strength will be with us always (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17). We need to continually go before our Lord, humbly and in trust, to receive these. And we need others – our brothers, sisters, friends, mentors, and children in faith – to continually lift us and guard us in prayer.
Each of us at some point in our faith journey will experience days and nights when we will desperately need all the love, strength, and courage that the prayers of others can bring to us. We will find ourselves discouraged, worn out, and battle-weary – but never alone! Our God will use His people – the Body of Christ – to be His healing balm, His refreshing breath, His holy zeal, and His powerful encouragement to bring us back to balance and strength as we live our lives following our Lord Jesus Christ and spreading His message of love, salvation and transformation.
Each of us, also, has the privilege and responsibility to take on this prayer-lifting, prayer-guarding role in the lives of our brothers, sisters, friends, mentors, and children in faith. We are to help point them – their hearts, minds, souls, and spirits – always back to the truth of God’s love, always back to the power of Christ’s perseverance. Just as they are to do for us. Always.
When we do this – when we honestly, actively love and support one another in prayer – we are loving one another as Christ loves us. When we honestly, actively love and support one another in prayer, we are bringing greater unity to the Body of Christ. When we honestly, actively love and support one another in prayer, we are all more fully prepared to reflect the beauty of Christ’s love and perseverance to all with whom we interact.
May each of us choose to be – and help our brothers and sisters on this faith journey to be – more fully prepared and pre-prayered as Christ’s ambassadors to share, and live out, the good news of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ!
May God’s full message of His life-transforming love, grace and truth spread rapidly and be honored by many! Starting with me…starting with you.
In the love and peace, grace and truth of Jesus Christ, Sylane
