…God has set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. – Ecclesiastes 3:11

Amazing. Just think about that for a minute: God has set eternity in each of our hearts.

God purposefully, fearfully and wonderfully, formed each one of us with His thumbprint in our hearts. That setting of eternity in our hearts is experienced by us as a deep longing for The Eternal. That setting of eternity in our hearts is a persistent, inner awareness that life is meant to be lived for an eternity – to be lived far beyond this fleeting, mortal life we now experience. God’s Thumbprint, God’s setting of eternity in our hearts, is experienced by us as a profound yearning and a soul-level sensing – sometimes strong and clear, other times quiet and fleeting – that we belong to God, that we are loved by our Creator and we are not alone.

God made each one of us as His special creation. We each were created as loved and unique – right down to having our own unique set of fingerprints, thumbprints included, that match no one else who has ever lived, or ever will live, on this earth. And it is God’s own unique Thumbprint on our hearts – that deep imprint of yearning within our innermost beings for eternity and for our God – that will only be matched by, and fulfilled through, the saving, transforming, eternal-life-giving love of our Lord Jesus Christ!

We cannot even begin to fathom what our God has planned and done from the beginning of time and, already counts as accomplished, for the end of time, as we know it. Our God is awesome and beyond comprehension in His wonder. Our God is eternal, and eternity is found only in Him!

Although we cannot fully comprehend or even begin to imagine what our eternal lives will look like or be like with our God, we do know the way and the truth about eternal life. Our Lord and Savior Jesus speaks it right into our hearts, where God has set eternity:

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.…I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:1-4, 6

God made each one of us out of His inexplicable, unfathomable love. Our God sealed our formation with His own Thumbprint imprinted on our hearts so that we would always yearn for and, therefore, seek eternity and eternal life with our God. And our God not only set eternity in our hearts, our God also fully gave us His way and His truth by giving His life for our salvation. Our hearts, and all of our longings, are able to be fulfilled – beyond our imagination and our ability to fathom – through the eternal, life-giving love of our Lord Jesus Christ, who reaches out His own nail-scarred, holy hands to take us home for all eternity!

In the love and peace, grace and truth of Jesus Christ,                                              Sylane
