Christianity is a thinking activity.

Every new day, every one of us as a follower of Jesus must make an intentional, thinking choice to trust our God and hold fast to God’s truth. It is in this intentionality of our thought choices, and in our subsequent action choices birthed from this truth-thinking, that we are set free. God’s loving, life-giving, head-clearing, action-directing truth offers freedom to our minds and our lives at the very deepest of levels. It is in holding fast to God’s truth that we are set free for all eternity – one victorious thought, one victorious action, one victorious day at a time.

Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” – John 8:31-32

To know the freedom that God’s truth brings us, we need to know God’s Word and hold fast to what God teaches us through His Word. But, quite often God must first help us recognize the lies. I call them LFTPOHs – Lies From The Pit Of Hell – that hold us in freedom-destroying bondage. For me, there were many years that my mind was held captive by twisted thinking and damaged perceptions that had absolutely nothing to do with God’s freeing truth.

The more I learned of God’s truth, the more I recognized the lies – the LFTPOHs – that were crippling me and holding me captive. Oh! There were understandable reasons for how my mind got to be bound by those lies. My experiences of abuse, rape and rejection were horrendously crippling life events. As well, the captivity that came from the lies I told myself in order to justify my own sin, selfishness, pride and shame was just as crippling.

No matter what my reasons were (or are) for the LFTPOHs in my life, they do not change God’s truth. Instead, God’s truth changes me – and continues to change me by setting me free and keeping me free!

What are some of God’s freeing truths that broke the powerful vise-grip of the LFTPOHs in my life? What are some of the truth-thinking choices I must make and trust each and every day of my life?

Some of the BIGGIES: God loves me. God loves me so much more, and so much more perfectly, than any person ever could. God’s love drives out all fear. Jesus died for my sins and my shame. I am completely forgiven. I am God’s precious child. I am living now and will live forever in the loving presence of my God. God knows me intimately. God understands me completely. God is my protector and defender. God is my hope. God speaks. God wants me to listen. Peace and joy come by trusting and obeying God. I am never, ever alone. I am never without help. I am filled with the Spirit of the Living God. I am called to be Christ’s ambassador of love and reconciliation in the lives of others. I am more than a conqueror through the love of Jesus. Nothing will ever separate me from God’s love.

I told you they were BIGGIES. So! Since Christianity is a thinking – a truth-thinking – activity, may we each choose to know, trust and hold fast to God’s LFTPOH-killing, freedom-bringing truth with every thought, every action, every day of our lives!
