Yes! It really is all about choice!
True life – living a deep, real, purposeful, peace-filled, love-knowing life – is all about choosing what God wants for us. And God wants all that is truly for our best! God, the Creator, Savior and Lord of our lives, deeply wants to give us His true life. Yet, God leaves the decision to us as to whether we will choose life or death.
Tragically, in so many different ways, we continually choose death. We choose death through every one of our selfish thoughts, words, actions and interactions. We choose death through our arrogance and self-righteous judgment. We choose death through our complacency and hate. We choose death through our unforgiveness and lack of compassion.
As we make these choices, we bring death in some way – mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually and relationally – to our own lives, to the lives of those around us and, far too often, to those precious ones we are supposed to love most dearly. These death choices only serve to kill our hope and our trust in God, increase our fear and worry, shred all sense of peace and destroy our very closest relationships.
Still, our God continually offers to give us His true life. The choice is ours.
I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life… Deuteronomy 30:19-20
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” – John 10:10
With Christ as our life – as our giver of life to the full – we have been given the power to bring life to ourselves, to our dearest ones, to our friends, to our co-workers, to our neighbors and to strangers. Choosing true life happens – and brings true life to others – with every word we speak, with every attitude we exude, with every action we take and with every interaction we have that come from us with true love, patience, kindness, unselfishness, understanding, compassion, gentleness, helpfulness, encouragement, forgiveness and thankfulness.
Choose life, precious ones – intentionally, actively, constantly and tenaciously. Choose God’s true life for yourself. Bring God’s true life to all those around you.
In the love and peace, grace and truth of Jesus Christ, Sylane
