In four days from today it will be Christmas Eve.
So many things may be consuming our time, our thoughts and our energy during these last few days before Christmas. Many of these things consuming us are probably very connected with whatever we still have to do, or think we have to do, to get ready for Christmas. And there are undoubtedly many other, and possibly overwhelming, things that are consuming our time, our thoughts and our energy that have absolutely nothing to do with Christmas.
Calm down. Breathe deeply. Let’s seek our God’s perspective and peace, inviting God’s love and strength to hold us. To calm our hearts and our minds as we consider Jesus.
Consider Jesus whose offer of peace is never dependent on our circumstances, but on us choosing to be held in His peace. Choosing to be held in the victorious peace of Jesus that overcomes everything that would ever attempt to consume us.
…in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble.
But take heart! I have overcome the world!
Consider Jesus whose peace will fill us and surround us as we bring Him all of our consuming situations – all of our anxious and frustrating, hurtful and confusing, stressful and demanding situations. Bringing them all to Jesus with prayer and with thanksgiving. Trusting in His peace.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation,
with prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding,
will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts…And be thankful.
Consider Jesus. Consider our Lord’s great love and great faithfulness. Consider all that God has given to us through the humble birth, holy life, sacrificial death and victorious resurrection of Jesus Christ. Consider Jesus and be assured that in Him we can never consumed by anything that comes at us in this life. Nor will we ever be consumed by the finality of sin and death as we place our trust in Jesus as God’s Son and our Savior. Consider Jesus. God’s fullest and most magnificent evidence of His great love for us and His great faithfulness to us.
Because of the LORD‘s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
Let’s count down, calm down and consider Jesus in this season and every season of our lives!
