“Then Jesus said to them, ‘Suppose one of you has a friend, and he goes to him at midnight and says, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him.’       Then the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children are with me in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’ I tell you, though he will not get up and give him the bread because he is his friend, yet because of the man’s boldness he will get up and give him as much as he needs. So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you…for everyone who asks receives…” Luke 11:5-10

Ask God. Ask God with faith and fervency, with passion and persistence. If what you are asking for comes from a heart that is seeking to offer love or welcome, kindness or compassion, rest or refreshment to another – then what you are asking for lines up fully with the loving, welcoming, kind, compassionate, rest and refreshment giving heart of our Holy Living Lord. Ask. And keep on asking. These prayers, this kind of asking, God loves to answer.

Are you coming to God on behalf of others? Asking God to woo them to Himself with His deep, unfailing and incomprehensible love? Asking God to open their hearts to His salvation and transformation? Are you asking God to let them know and experience His full freedom, deep peace, great joy, amazing wisdom and complete healing that come through an intimate love relationship with Jesus Christ? Are you coming to God asking for these same deep and life-renewing, transforming gifts for yourself?

Ask God. Ask God with faith and fervency, with passion and persistence. Our God, our Abba, knows that we are just like little children. We can’t always (or hardly ever!) see the full picture of what is truly best for us or lines up most perfectly with God’s perfect and eternal perspective of our lives and the lives of those we love. Our God does not reject our sincere and heartfelt prayers. He knows we are little and unable to know all that He knows. The very act of asking our Abba for anything is showing Him that we know and believe He’s the One who hears us and is able to answer us. When we come to God with that childlike faith, I absolutely believe our Abba is well pleased and looks on us with tenderness. We, like the little ones we are – even if we can’t understand God’s answers or seeming silence – must yield and trust that God will answer us, His beloved children, in the way He knows is absolutely best at the absolutely best time.

I have seen the gates of hell and the strongholds of sin stormed and destroyed in my own life and in the lives of many whom I love so very much. I, along with others, have relentlessly gone before our Holy God to plead for their salvation, healing, transformation and restoration. And God has shown Himself Mighty! God passionately and persistently loves us. God wants us to love others and love ourselves in such a way that we would be moved to ask God passionately and persistently to fully release His love and power of transforming grace and freeing truth into their lives and into ours.

So! Ask passionately and persistently for everything that would bring God’s unfailing love, grace, truth and perfect will into your life and into the lives of others. Ask! And it will be given. That is God’s Word. That is God’s promise.
