January 5–God’s Love–No Matter What!

“I know my mommy and daddy love me no matter what!” Years ago, our little, three-year-old Erin rhythmically repeated that phrase over and over during a three hour train trip in France. With her red, curly-haired head resting on my lap, she looked up at us, her mommy and daddy, with absolute trust shining in her eyes. What amazing faith she put in our love–even as imperfect as we are! How much more should we trust in our Heavenly Father’s love–who is perfect and unfailing–with that same confidence and joy! There is absolutely nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from God’s love.  No matter what!

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8: 38-39

Personal Reflections from Sylane                                                                          This is one of my sweetest memories of our time in France. I can still hear the rhythm of our Erin’s sing-songy words matched perfectly to the rhythm of the train.

As tender as this memory is, God used our daughter’s complete trust in our love to really shake up my world.

I knew there would be times, yet to come as Erin grew, that I would fail, frustrate and disappoint her. I knew there would probably be, at the very least, fleeting moments when she would doubt the “no matter what!” of my love for her because my decisions, words and actions weren’t always all that loving. Those times did come. And, sadly, those times came for my Julia, too. Darn! I really did want to be the perfect mommy.

The love I have for each of my precious, incredible (now adult!) daughters, Erin and Julia, is absolutely crazy and passionate! But, it will be no News Flash to them, nor anyone else, that my love–even as deep and full (and crazy!) as it is–is not perfect. My love is not the love that will meet each and every desire, need and hope of their hearts–at every moment of every day of their lives.

 But God’s love is.

I am convinced of this. And I pray that my beautiful daughters, and you, and every person in this world will be absolutely convinced that with Jesus as our Lord and Savior there is absolutely nothing that could ever separate any of us from the perfect and unfailing love of our God.

No matter what!

In love, peace and purposeful passion,                                                              Sylane

  2. Dear Sylane: Thank you for sharing and passing this along to my attention. I will be sharing this with many of my friends. I read all those back ones today and it brought so many memories back. I loved this one I can still hear your voice in my ears. My mommy and daddy love me NO matter what! I also have of few of those other phrases you used they come back from time to time as well. You have an awesome ministry going and I do and will continue to hold you up in prayer. I hope someday we can connect again. Looking forward to your book as well. May God continue to bless you and all your staff as you serve Christ so faithfully. Love and Prayers. Janet

    • Janet, thank you so much for these words of affirmation and fun! Let’s make some more ministry plans together. Please, also, pass along info about TBG to others who are looking for conference and retreat speakers. We know what GOD is able to do! I’m just thankful to be the audience of God (even while I speak!) as Jesus works His transforming grace in the lives of so many during those special events!
