October 1–…only BE STILL!

The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still. Exodus 14:14

The Israelites were terrified. Pharaoh’s army was closing in behind them and the sea was in front of them. They were scared. They were angry. And immediately they jumped to the worst conclusions…sure they were going to die—they saw no escape, no way out of this perilous position…sure that it would have been better for them to have remained slaves to a cruel master rather than go through these uncertain and overwhelming times now.

They couldn’t see any help or any escape from their peril because they looked only from their own point of view, they cried out from their own frightened, limited perspective. They cried out to the LORD…but they weren’t trusting the LORD. They allowed their panic to rise and take over their minds.

And God in His mercy reassured His frightened, untrusting people through His servant Moses…

Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today…The LORD will fight for you: you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:13-14

Only BE STILL.

There are so many things in life that are hard, that are frightening, that are frustrating, that are sad. That is the truth of this broken, imperfect world.

Yet, we must choose to stay…stand firm…BE STILL…and trust our God. We need to quiet our minds…quiet our own voices that are spinning our fear or anger or sadness or our bad habits…out of control.

We need to BE STILL before our God…we need to trust the eternal truth that God is good. That God is in control. That God does love us. That even the most difficult of times that we go through are opportunities for us to see and know God’s great care and intimate love in our lives.

But we must BE STILL and choose God’s truth to be the interpreter of our circumstances instead of our fear. Then we will sense God’s presence and see His deliverance as the LORD fights for us.

Only Be STILL!

In love, peace and purposeful passion,                                                               Sylane
