November 18–The Call of Salt and Light!

“You are the salt of the earth…you are the light of the world.”

Matthew 5:13, 14

Jesus is telling His followers that we are called to be the salt of the earth…that we are called to be the light of the world! Oh, LORD, help us to be that! Help me to be that!

Do you and I as followers of Jesus live and act as His salt and light to those around us.

As the salt of the earth—Do my words and actions help to preserve and protect God’s image as reflected through me? Do my words and actions help to preserve and protect the dignity of those around me who were also made in the image of God? Do my words and actions leave people with a good and flavorful “taste in their mouths” about who Jesus is…and how I represent him? Or do my words and actions leave people with a sour or bitter taste?

As the light of the world—Do my words and actions reveal and shed light on the love—the unfailing, faithful, passionate, grace-filled, forgiving, transforming love—of God to others? Do my words and actions reveal and shed light on an attitude of thanksgiving, humility and joy for all that Jesus has done to give me—and to offer to all people—His eternal salvation? Do my words and actions point the spot-light on Jesus as King of kings and Lord of lords? Or do I attempt to keep grabbing the spot-light and the close-up shots?

Lord, You have called us to be Your salt and light. You want us, as Your people, to be Your love, Your healing, Your hope in this world. Help us to want what You want. Help us to truly be more and more Your pure salt and light to everyone with whom we interact…in every relationship…in every circumstance…and even in the briefest encounters we may have. Teach us and shape us to be Your preserving, protecting, revealing, brilliant vessels—all for Your glory and for the salvation and transformation of many, many lives through the love and power of You, our Lord Jesus Christ! Amen!

In love, peace and purposeful passion,                                                               Sylane
