June 9–What’s your Samuel?

Hannah wanted a baby so much.

Her years of longing bubbled up and out of control on one particular trip to Shiloh when she attended a festival of worship and sacrifice to the LORD Almighty.  At that time in Israel’s history, Shiloh was where the Central Sanctuary and the Ark of the Covenant were located. This was holy ground for a holy celebration.

This was also the place and the time that Hannah…”In bitterness of soul wept much and prayed to the LORD…” 1 Samuel 1:10

Hannah wanted a baby so much that she also made a vow to give her child—her future son—back to the LORD to serve Him all the days of his life.  God heard and honored her prayer and her promise.

And at just the right time—according to God’s perfect plans and perfect timing—the LORD answered Hannah’s desperately longing prayers for a son. And Hannah…

“…named him Samuel saying, ‘Because I asked the LORD for him.'”

1 Samuel 1:20

Samuel sounds very much like the Hebrew word for heard of God.

Hannah knew that Samuel was the tangible, living proof that the LORD Almighty—the God she worshipped—IS the God who hears. And Hannah bubbled up, once again, in thanksgiving and awe and praise to the LORD Almighty—to the God who hears:

“There is no one holy like the LORD; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.” 1 Samuel 2:2

What’s your Samuel?

What do you see, acknowledge and give thanks for in your life as tangible, living proof for how the LORD Almighty—the God who hears—has heard and answered you?

  1. Hi Sylane,
I apologize in advance for the length of this testimony but I couldn’t help myself.

Your question was, “What do you see, acknowledge and give thanks for in your life as tangible, living proof for how the LORD Almighty—the God who hears—has heard and answered you?”

You mean after He transformed my life four years ago, my family’s lives, put a heart of praise on me that just won’t quit and gave me hope after a major surgery that I did not think I would survive? Oh, He has heard and answered me so many times and not only in those immeasurable ways.

Most recently, God heard and answered me! A week ago today, I had just returned home from a disappointing doctor appointment, sat on my recliner and was building up to have an enormous cry. I apologized to God for wavering somewhat from my Diabetic “self-management” and asked Him to forgive me. I looked over at my remote control and turned on the TV. I came across a Joyce Meyer program that I had not watched yet. I paused for a minute and asked God to speak to me through Joyce as He has many times before.

    Joyce quoted from Scripture:
John 11:40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you, if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” What a powerful word for me directly and at the very moment I needed it! He has once again given me a renewed hope and detonated my heart with even more praise for His name and His glory!!!

If I believe, He may cure me of Diabetes but then again, He may not. Either way, if I believe, I WILL see the glory of God! Regardless of what this disease can do to me; it will NOT have a hold on me because my God has His hold on me! Oh and His grace is ENOUGH! AMEN.

    God’s Peace,
    Linda

  2. Hallelujah! How great is our God! Thank you, Linda, for sharing “Your Samuel”! Even now I join you in love and prayer for your health! Thank you for being used by God to encourage others! May God be honored as each of us–His children trust Him! For then we see the glory of God!! Amen!
