Our Holy God, the maker of heaven and earth, is mighty and sovereign. And our mighty and sovereign God is also tender and compassionate towards us. Our Lord intimately knows our circumstances and our hearts. And during those times when we feel most vulnerable and weak, our God’s mighty and tender love will protect us.
A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out. Isaiah 42: 3
God knows when we are feeling frail and at our breaking point. God knows when our energy is depleted and we are feeling burned out. God knows us. God loves us.
It’s so important for us to remember that no matter how awful, frightened and fragile we may feel in the midst of our messy times, nothing changes the might and tenderness of our God in any way. God doesn’t change. God does not grow weak or worn out. God’s love does not fail. God is our safe and strong place. God can always be trusted. We need to choose to believe these truths and trust our God during those times and in those circumstances when we are feeling most weak and unprotected.
God, unlike some people we may know or experiences we have had, does not “kick us when we’re down.” God doesn’t take advantage of us when we are weak. Rather, when we choose to turn to God – recognizing and admitting that we really do need Him to help us, heal us, hold us, comfort us, lead us, fill us, forgive us, refresh us and renew us – God will use this to our advantage. To know Him better. To move us closer to Him. To make us stronger in Him. To experience God’s mighty and tender love more powerfully and intimately.
We really are so safe in God’s loving hands. They are the mighty and sovereign hands that fashioned every detail of this creation. They are the tender and compassionate hands that are eternally marked with the nail-driven scars of His crucifixion.
Our Lord Jesus Christ reaches out to take us by the hand as we walk through each day, each circumstance, each relationship, each responsibility and each moment when we feel beat up or burned out. So choose to hold onto the hand of Jesus, and experience the mighty and tender love of His good grip.
