…man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. James 1:20
I don’t know about you, but for me this verse brings out a very gut-level response: DUH! Of course anger does NOT bring about the righteous life that God desires! DUH!
But, then…I have to stop and look at myself honestly. How often to I let myself rant and rave with anger—even if no one else sees it? Even if it’s just inside of my head? How long do I let myself stay in that place of anger—entertaining thoughts of just how angry I am—and justifying myself with several reasons for being so angry?
Ain’t a whole lot of righteousness in anger.
But NOT God’s Holy and True, Loving and Perfect, Eternal Righteousness. AMEN! And maybe just a little bit of DUH!
Our God desires us to live a righteous life. Our God desires to conform each one of His earthly children more and more into the likeness of His One and Only Son Jesus.
We need to choose immediately what to do with our anger. God knows it will rise in us. He doesn’t fault us that. But God does demand that…
In your anger do not sin. Ephesians 4:26
This verse is quoted from Psalm 4:4, which also gives some additional wise and righteous advice to us:
In your anger do not sin;
when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent.
A little more of choosing to do things God’s ways will bring about a whole lot more of the righteous life God desires for each one of us to live!
AMEN! And maybe just a little bit of DUH!
