Do you ever feel out of balance? Emotionally, mentally, physically, spiritually? I do. And I don’t like it. Not one bit.
A long time ago I asked God to “hold me tightly.” And guess what? God answered that prayer.
Well, the way God answered my prayer for Him to “hold me tightly” was NOT by holding me on a short-leash as I had imagined. No, God answered me by NOT giving me any leash at all.
Instead, God holds me tightly by what almost feels like a heavy, circular, metal ring that is invisible to the eye but pierces into my chest—right through my heart—and is held tightly in God’s hand as I move through life.
And, well, that really is great. Really. But for me, being held that tightly also means that I am highly sensitive to being out of balance—out of shalom—with my God.
So, whenever I’m thinking, saying or doing things that aren’t following God’s leading (and that’s still way too often, darn it!), I feel sooooo out of balance—sooooo out of God’s shalom. And I quickly feel God giving me a good hard YANK on the ring attached to my heart so that I get God’s point and get myself right back on His path, following Him very closely.
No leash! No leeway!
Sounds kinda tough, huh? Maybe. But only if I’m viewing God’s YANK on my heart through my selfishness or my stubborn pride.
God’s good hard YANK on my heart is ACTUALLY God’s passionate, incredible LOVE for me and His faithfulness to hold me tightly as I had asked Him to do!
God loves to answer our prayers that line up with His “good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:2) for our lives! This prayer—for God to hold me tightly—I just know DELIGHTED HIM a whole bunch to RECEIVE! And DELIGHTS HIM probably a whole bunch more to ANSWER—over and over and over again on a daily (moment-by-moment) basis!
No leash! KNOW BALANCE!
God is my balance. This is my truest life, my greatest freedom, my deepest shalom: Keeping close to God—being held very tightly by Him—as I move through each moment of my life.
Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Galatians 5:24
May God’s powerful, unfailing love always give me and you a good hard YANK on our hearts so that we will walk and live—emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually—in God’s loving and perfect balance!
Sing with me if you know this song!
CHANGE YANK my heart, O God! Make it ever new!
CHANGE YANK my heart, O God! I want to be like YOU!
In love, peace and purposeful passion, Sylane
