July 7–How A Family CAN Be!

Children’s children are a crown to the aged,

and parents are the pride of their children.

Proverbs 17:6

This last weekend while we were celebrating our nation’s birthday, the Mack family came from near and far (and some waaaay toooo long car rides—going and returning!) to celebrate Mom Mack’s 80th birthday a month early. (Although I don’t think it’s ever too early for a party! And we’ll be celebrating again on the actual day!)

Mom—the birthday girl—along with Dad Mack, were the center of much attention—and absolutely the center of much thanksgiving and love!

Oh! We shared way too much lots of great food, lots of laughter, lots of talk about everything from catching up on current happenings in each other’s lives to national and international current events and politics to Wimbledon and much more.  And we shared lots of fun and games—Bocci Ball, Ladder Golf, Birthday Bingo and about 103 games of Scotsman’s Bridge. (And, of course, much more food!)

But most of all we shared a lot of LOVE. Yep. We are (or have become) disproportionately mushy for a family with mosly WASP-y roots. (I personally am thrilled to have contributed even just a little bit to our mushy expression of love for each other!)

And we—the whole bunch of us: Mom and Dad Mack, their children and their children’s children—worshiped our Lord Jesus Christ together at church. And we worshiped our Lord Jesus Christ in all of our time spent together and in the relationships we share with each other.

No, this family is not a perfect family. There have been, and still are, times of hurts, sadness, concerns and disappointments—within different individuals or within certain relationships within this family. No, we are none of us yet perfect.

Yet! The flow of LOVE—the joy and the peace—within this family is real and good.  And that LOVE is a very real and good blessing from God that has been poured out to Mom and Dad Mack, to their children (and us in-laws who wisely married into this family!) and to their grandchildren.

God’s Word is true. And today’s verse has special meaning for me when I think of—and give thanks for—my Mom and Dad Mack!

Children’s children are a crown to the aged,

and parents are the pride of their children.

Proverbs 17:6

May each of you take time to LOVE on the members of your family today. And if there are hurts (and I do know there can be horrible hurts)—PRAY. FORGIVE. And LET GOD Heal, Strengthen and Renew your hearts, your minds, your spirits and each of your relationships with His unfailing, all-powerful LOVE!

In Jesus Christ this is How a Family CAN Be! Thank YOU, Lord!

In love, peace and purposeful passion,                                                               Sylane

  1. Aunt Sylane – this is a beautiful post. I’m so sorry we missed it (especially the 103 games of Scotsman Bridge :))
All of our family continues to be in our prayers. We love you all and hope to see you soon.
