Flight or Fight? God’s Word and Spirit empower us with divine power to know when and how we should take flight or stand our ground and fight.
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. – 2 Peter 1:3
Our Lord Jesus knows every temptation that pulls at us and deceitfully lies to us, enticing us to sin and to justify our sins. God has provided a way for us to take flight from temptation.
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. – 1 Corinthians 10:13
Our Lord Jesus knows every abuse, misjudgment, cruelty and outrageous evil that would make us want to fight in the same way and with the same weapons that this broken world fights. But! We are to fight with the weapons given to us by our God and infused with His divine power.
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. – 2 Corinthians 10:3-4
Our God’s greatest divine weapon is for us to know our God and learn from Him humbly and willingly so that God’s divine purpose will be accomplished within each of us –
…to be conformed to the image of His Son… – Romans 8:29
The more transformed into the image of Jesus we are, the more we’ll be able to take flight from every temptation and fight the right fight as Jesus did – using God’s Word and His divine weapons to conquer temptation and evil. Christ’s weapons: love, prayer, forgiveness, sacrifice, obedience to God, compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” – Matthew 5:44
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. – Colossians 3:13
I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God…Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. – Romans 12:1-2
This is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love. – 2 John 1:6
As God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. – Colossians 3:12
Fight the good fight of the faith…– 1 Timothy 6:12
We are called to fight. But! We must be certain we are fighting the right fight that will conform us to be more like Jesus. Then we will be vessels of God’s love, healing and transformation in the lives of others. All others. To our closest family and friends and to our cruelest enemies. This is the divine power and knowledge of our Lord Jesus that will change us for all eternity!
