As the aged King David prepared his son Solomon to take up the throne as a servant of God and as the King of Israel, David had strong and wise counsel for his son.
“And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve Him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.” – 1 Chronicles 28:9
David’s counsel to Solomon is counsel that we, too, should take for ourselves. As children, servants and ambassadors of the Most High God, we need to fully embrace the wisdom of serving our God with a wholehearted devotion and a willing mind as we live out the details of our daily-day lives…during our days of great joy and peace…and during our days of great turmoil and sadness.
God knows us full well. And our Lord wants our hearts and minds to be wholeheartedly and willingly devoted to Him. Our God wants us to actively and intentionally seek to love and follow Him with all that we are and with all that we think, say and do.
Our great blessing in serving and seeking our Lord with wholehearted devotion and a willing mind – and our God’s loving and faithful promise to us – is that as we seek the Lord, He will be found by us! Our God has promised that as we seek Him, we will find and know Him. As we seek Him, we will know God’s loving and intimate presence with us forever. We will know God’s strong and holy leading. We will know God’s wise and protective guidance for us all the days of our lives. Through our Lord Jesus Christ coming to us in order to rescue us from God’s righteous judgment against our sins, it is actually we who have been found!
Is there anything stopping you from serving and seeking the Lord with wholehearted devotion and a willing mind? Nothing this world has to offer – nothing you may be holding onto – is worth the cost of keeping you from an intimate, powerful and eternal relationship with the Lord.
Ask the Lord to reveal to you, and take away from you, any and all obstacles of pride, self-focused living and hidden or blatant sins that you have put up in your life that stop you from serving and seeking the Lord with wholehearted devotion and a willing mind.
Ask the Lord to reveal to you, and take away from you, any and all obstacles of hurt, bitterness and resentment that have grown up in you from your painful experiences with other people and from disappointing and difficult circumstances that stop you from serving and seeking the Lord with wholehearted devotion and a willing mind.
Let nothing rule over you except the love and leadership of the Lord our God! Our Lord Jesus gave Himself with wholehearted devotion and a willing mind as He chose to die for our salvation! Let us choose to live in His resurrection power – living in His joy and freedom, peace and purpose, truth and transformation – as we choose to serve and seek the Lord our God with wholehearted devotion and a willing mind! Every day of our lives!
