Our Lord’s great love, compassions and faithfulness are offered new to us every new morning of our lives. No matter what our yesterday was like.
Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. – Lamentations 3:22-23
Our moods, our behavior, our circumstances, our health, our hope, our families, our friends, our jobs, our bank accounts, our perspectives – all can change, and sometimes quite radically, from one day to the next. There are many things we can’t rely on to remain the same over the course of our days. We don’t have absolute certainty or control in any situation or relationship.
Yet, we can be absolutely certain that the Lord’s great love for us is as present with us today as it was yesterday. And we can be absolutely certain that our Lord’s great love for us will be just as present with us in the new morning that will greet us tomorrow.
We can be absolutely certain that our Lord’s compassions and mercies will flow constantly, consistently and unfailingly to all of us as His children. Each new morning of each new day.
We can be absolutely certain that our Lord’s great faithfulness to us is based on who He is. Not on who we are. Not on what we do. Not on what we say. Not on what we think. Our Lord is the same sovereign, holy, faithful God yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Our Lord’s great love, compassion and faithfulness are newly offered to us every new morning. If we will receive them, we will be renewed every new morning by them. And in our renewal, our Lord empowers each one of us to offer His great love, compassion and faithfulness to all those around us – to those who have broken hearts or broken bodies, broken relationships or broken dreams. As we are renewed, we are given power to also offer the Lord’s great love, compassion and faithfulness to those who have broken our own hearts, have hurt our bodies and have betrayed our trust and dismantled our dreams.
Is there someone in your life that needs this renewed offering of the Lord’s love, compassion and faithfulness from you? By the Lord’s powerful Spirit working in and through us, it is always possible to do this. Not necessarily easily. But it is always possible.
It is the through the very same power that raised Jesus from the dead that our Lord will work to renew us and work through us to offer new every morning love, compassion and faithfulness to all those around us, including, and maybe especially, to those who have disappointed us or who have hurt us the very most!
