AS LONG AS THE EARTH ENDURES – AND FAR BEYOND IN CHRIST

After the devastating flood in the days of Noah, the Lord gave a new beginning to human beings, and to all living creatures. The Lord promised that the cycle of life would continue once again in all of its expected rhythms.

“As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.” – Genesis 8:22

Many things can completely wipe out the expected rhythms of our lives – from the small and temporary frustrations with our computers and phones to the gravely destructive forces within this physical world that can shatter innumerable lives through earthquakes, fires, floods, tsunamis, tornadoes, mud slides, hurricanes, super-storms, snow and ice storms.

Our own personal, expected rhythms of life can be altered significantly by the hard things in life we mourn and by the things in life we celebrate. By the loss of loved one. By the birth of a new child. By a wedding. By a divorce. By a loss of a job. By a promotion.

In all of our ups and downs, in all of the changes in our lives – in all of the times when our expected rhythms of life have taken unexpected turns – we can be assured that God is still in control. God is still allowing this life and this world to go on in all of its seasons. For all of its appointed days. As long as the earth endures.

And we can be assured that God is still present with us, loving us always, calling out to us continually so that we would know Him and receive the gift of His merciful salvation and eternal life that He offers to us – that will last far beyond the time that this earth endures.

Our God is eternal. Our God never changes. Nor does His love for us ever change. Yet, our earthly lives, and this world as we know it, will not and cannot go on as they are now. Not one of us knows what will actually happen from one day to the next. We don’t know if our own personal, expected rhythms of life will go on for us as we expect them to do. Our assurance of eternity is completely rooted and established, offered and received, only in the love of our God and the hope we have in Jesus.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead… – 1 Peter 1:3

We each need to take a moment. And be thankful for our lives. Thankful for each day. Thankful for each moment of life. And be even far more thankful that our God – who is not limited by time or seasons as are we – reaches out to us with His unlimited, unfailing love and salvation. May any of you who do not yet believe, trust in Jesus as your Savior today and receive this new birth into a living hope so that each of your days will be filled with the assurance that you will live eternally with our God and in His love – far beyond the time that this earth endures!
