Many of us, in one way or another at one time or another, in big ways and small ways, have had to deal with being misunderstood, mistreated, misinterpreted and misjudged. Whether this happens within our personal relationships, within our public and social connections or in the legal domain, being wrongfully treated, accused or perceived can be painful and frustrating.
Sometimes there is absolutely nothing we can do to ensure that the truth about us – about who we are, what we do or what we have done – will be made known, received and believed by those who have come against us. And this can be absolutely maddening.
If we know, receive and believe the eternal truth that our holy and righteous God knows us full well, knows every detail about our lives, knows every nuance of our thoughts, words, actions, circumstances and interactions with every person, we can be held in God’s peace instead of our anger. Even in knowing we have been wrongfully treated, accused or perceived by others, we can commit our ways – all that we are and all that we do – to our God who knows the absolute truth, and absolutely loves us.
Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun. – Psalm 37:5-6
I love to watch the sun rising at dawn. I love bright, sun-bathed days. And our God likens these beautiful, natural experiences to what can happen for us on the emotional, mental, spiritual, relational, social, practical and even legal levels when we commit our way to Him. When we fully trust in our God as a righteous and just God who fully knows us, and will fully vindicate us – justify us, exonerate us and free us – from all wrongs!
Whatever righteousness there is in us, whatever is true about us and about our interpretation of our circumstances, may seem for a time to be completely hidden by the darkness of mistreatment, false accusations and misjudgments. But, wait. Trust God. Commit your way to the Lord and your righteousness will shine like the dawn. Your vindication – your being set free from all the lies from the pit of hell – will be like the noonday sun.
Our God will never let falsehood, wrong judgment or cruelty of any kind have the final victory. Our God is the righteous, true and just God. Our God will remove everything that would foolishly or cruelly attempt to overshadow anyone or anything that is committed to His ways – His eternal righteous, true and just ways.
So, wait. Trust God. Commit your way to the Lord.
And the beautiful dawn, the bright sun of who we are in God, as His children sealed by His righteousness, will one day be fully revealed!
