There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. – Ecclesiastes 3:1
Everything that we have ever experienced, and everything that we will yet experience at some point in the future, has its own time and its own season in our lives. But! That doesn’t mean we are going to like everything, or even understand everything, that happens in our lives or the timing of when everything happens. Still, we are called to trust in the One True God whose sovereign purpose and unfailing love will one day reveal to us that…
He has made everything beautiful in its time. – Ecclesiastes 3:11
Until that time – whether our seasons bring birth or death, weeping or laughing, mourning or dancing, scattering or gathering, silence or speaking, war or peace – it is always the time for each one of us to choose to trust in the Lord. With all our hearts. In all our ways.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways [acknowledge] submit to God, and he will direct your paths. – Proverbs 3:5-6
Our God is loving and faithful and good in all His ways. I know that’s not how many of us will automatically respond to, or naturally feel about, the different times and seasons we experience in our lives. Some times and seasons are just so very hard, so very sad, so very confusing. Still, we are to trust our God. Always. With all our heart. In all our ways.
We are to trust our God when it is easy for us to trust Him – in those times and seasons of our lives that bring birth and laughter, dancing and peace.
We are to trust our God when it is so very difficult for us to trust Him – in those times and seasons of our lives that bring death and weeping, mourning and war.
Our God, who is eternally, sovereignly and intimately loving, faithful and good in all His ways, sees and knows and understands far more than we could ever even begin to see, know and understand about the times and seasons of our lives.
And so, we are called to trust in the One who promises to make everything beautiful in its time. We are called to trust in the One who will direct our paths – even when our view is clouded by the darkness of this broken world or overshadowed by fears or we are blinded by our own tears.
One day we will each be astounded by the beauty that will shine through everything we have ever experienced – everything will be fully redeemed and transformed by our Lord Jesus Christ – from every time and every season of our lives!
Until that time, may we choose to let this day and every day be a time to trust our Lord! With all our hearts. In all our ways. Always.
