What makes you shout? Your kids? Your spouse? Your job? Your co-workers? Watching your favorite team blow the game? Driving alongside all those crazy people on the road?
Most of us probably need to change up the things that make us shout. We need to get focused on shouting about what, and shouting in the way, our Lord wants us to shout.
Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth! – Psalm 100:1
Our Lord wants us to shout for joy to Him! Unfortunately, we all too quickly, and way too often, think about all the things and people that make us angry, frustrated, sad and hurt. All those things and people that make us shout (or growl, or groan or curse or…)!
Oh! We so need to get over ourselves! (And, yes! I am speaking directly to myself!) Because the Lord is good. And the Lord loves us with an unimaginable and eternal love. Our Lord offers us a life of peace, strength, courage and hope – right now on this side of heaven – as we trust Him with our lives and choose to love and obey Him.
So, how can we get ourselves to the mind-focused, heart-held place where we will honestly and more freely choose to shout for joy to our Lord?
Choose to think about the wonders of life and all that we have been given by our God!
Choose to think about everyone and everything that brings us joy – even in small ways! Choose to think about our Lord’s ultimate sacrifice of His Son Jesus to forgive our sins! Choose to think about our Lord’s boundless power through the resurrection of Jesus that promises eternal life to all who believe!
Choose to think about who our Lord is!
Choose to think about who we are in Him – holy and dearly loved children, redeemed, rescued, transformed, ambassadors, and co-heirs with Jesus Christ!
Choose to think about all those times when the Lord was weaving together circumstances, people and events in your life, all for your very best, and for His good and eternal purposes!
Choose to think about our Lord’s unfailing, inseparable love and constant presence with all of us, at all times!
As we think about our Lord’s love, kindness, mercy, grace and outrageous generosity to us, we should each be filled with wonder, with awe, with thankfulness and with joy. Offering sincere, joy-filled thanks to our Lord is just one simple way – though powerful and mind-transforming – to show our love to our Lord and Heavenly Abba.
Our joy, our love and our thanks to our Lord should flow more and more freely and naturally from us as we grow in the knowledge of who our Lord truly is and how greatly He loves us! In spite of who we truly are. Our Lord is the Almighty God! Our Lord is the Eternal God of all of life! Our Lord is the Holy One over all of creation! We are here, we breathe and we live, only because of the love, each life-breath and every provision given to us by our Lord!
Now, that’s something to shout about! So! Go ahead! Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth! And that goes for all of us on this earth! Shout! With a whole lot of thankfulness!
