LET’S COUNT DOWN, CALM DOWN AND CONSIDER JESUS

In seven days from today it will be Christmas Eve.

We are just one week away from Christmas Eve – a season that seemed to begin as early as July with certain stores offering “Christmas in July” sales. Even before Halloween arrived, many merchandisers in the brick-and-mortar stores and throughout cyberspace were ramping up for the Christmas hoop-la and its marketing mayhem. Commercials were filled with all kinds of commercialization of this holy (?) season. An abundance of catalogs and fliers came to our mailboxes, and an overload of emails and pop-ups came to our screens. Arrrgghh!

Don’t get me wrong. I love Christmas decorations and Christmas music. Christmas plays in the theaters and Christmas shows on TV. I love the sparkle of Christmas lights and the sound of Christmas bells and the smell and taste of Christmas cookies. I love the sense of anticipation and celebration in the air as we approach Christmas. But! There is so much more to consider!

Consider Jesus. Consider and consciously choose to not allow the pretty lights and presents, the glitz and glamor, the great food, music and magic of this season to diminish in any way our focus on the truth about the birth of Jesus and the purpose of His life.

Consider Jesus. Consider and consciously choose to not allow the pretty lights and presents, the glitz and glamor, the great food, music and magic of this season to overshadow in any way the true light of Jesus Christ. Jesus, God in human flesh, came to dwell among us – to light up our darkness and remove our blindness and to show us the only way to our Heavenly Father so that we may dwell in the light of His eternal presence and perfect love for all eternity.

Consider Jesus. Consider and consciously choose to not allow the truth of Christmas – the truth that Jesus came to us so that we might come to the Father – to be lessened or put aside, hidden or made hollow by all the holiday hoop-la. Consider Jesus. Consider Jesus first and well before we consider Santa and sleigh bells, plans, preparations, parties and presents.

Consider Jesus above all else. Recognize Him. Receive Him. Believe in His name. Let Him bring you to the Father to be born as His child. Consider Jesus and let the light of His life, His grace and truth fill and flow through you with wonder and joy, amazement and hope!

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become the children of God…The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. – John 1:9-14

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6

Let’s count down, calm down and consider Jesus in this season and in every season of each of our lives!

In the love and peace, grace and truth of Jesus Christ,                                              Sylane
