DECISIONS! DECISIONS!

Decisions! Decisions! We make hundreds of them each and every day. Some of which we are not even necessarily all that conscious of when making them. Other decisions are about the minutia of life, and some of those we can often make too big in our own minds.

Some of our decisions will be highly significant for our lives and for the course our lives will take here on earth. Decisions about:

What we want to be when we grow up…what steps to take to reach that goal…what school to attend…what training, certification, trade-apprenticeship or course of study to take…what job to take…which relationships we build…who to trust…who to date…who to marry…or not to marry at all…to have children or not…and if “yes” to children, then, when and how many…how to best care for and how to best raise our children…to have pets or not…and if “yes” to pets, then, when and how many…how to earn money…how to save…how to spend…how to use our money to help others…where to live…where to worship…when to leave…when to stay…how to best use our time, energy, efforts and resources at work and in our personal time…when to retire…to downsize or not…to have surgery or not…to have chemo or radiation or both…home-health care or assisted living or a nursing home for our loved ones and for ourselves…and on and on. And there will be oh-so-many other highly significant decisions we will need to make for our lives over the course of our lives.

However, there is no decision – there is no choice – that any one of us will make that will more significantly impact our lives and the course of our lives for all eternity than to make the decision to choose, trust, serve and love God as the Lord of our lives.

I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life.         Deuteronomy 30:19-20

Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD. – Joshua 24:15

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.         John 3:16-17

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6

If the ultimate decision of our lives – made in our minds and in our hearts – is the decision to choose, trust, serve and love the Lord, then the course for our eternal life is set in Christ’s sure hope and transcending peace. With this ultimate decision made, our Lord will guide us by His Word and by His Spirit, giving us an eternal balancing point and strong foundation from which to make all of the other decisions we will have to make in the course of our lifetimes here on earth. Decisions! Decisions! Make God your first choice!

In the love and peace, grace and truth of Jesus Christ,                                              Sylane
