INNERMOST INTEGRITY

Because of my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever. Psalm 41:12

Integrity, according to the Encarta English Dictionary means, the quality of possessing and steadfastly adhering to high moral principles or professional standards; completeness – the state of being complete or undivided; wholeness – the state of being sound or undamaged.

A few of the synonyms for integrity are: honesty, truthfulness, honor, uprightness, unity.

God’s Word tells us that in our integrity our Lord upholds us and sets us in His presence forever. Think about that. Our God absolutely honors the integrity – the unity, the oneness, the truthfulness, the moral strength, the uprightness – of our hearts and minds, of our characters and of our very lives. And our omnipresent God sets us, as people of integrity, in His presence forever.

And I have to ask:

In my integrity…Do I possess and steadfastly adhere to God’s true and high moral principles and standards? Do I do this at home? At work? At leisure? In my closest relationships? In my professional relationships? With my neighbors? With strangers? In my car? When I control the remote? When I’m all by myself?

In my integrity…Am I one person, undivided, without duplicity or hypocrisy? At home? At work? At leisure? In my closest relationships? In my professional relationships? With my neighbors? With strangers? In my car? When I control the remote? When I’m all by myself?

In my integrity…Am I sound and reliable, pure and safe for others in my life and for myself? At home? At work? At leisure? In my closest relationships? In my professional relationships? With my neighbors? With strangers? In my car? When I control the remote? When I’m all by myself?

Oh, I want to act with innermost integrity in every circumstance and relationship! This really is my heart’s desire. Yet, to answer honestly, and with integrity, I have to say: No. I am not a woman of innermost integrity at every moment of every day, in every thought, in every word and in every action. I am not a woman of innermost integrity with every person or even when I’m by myself.

And I cannot become a person of innermost integrity on my own. I need God. We all do. Thanks be to God, who desires, and is able, to uphold and shape each of us by the truth of His Word and the power of His Spirit to become more and more like Jesus – to reveal the presence of God’s own innermost integrity, truth, honor and oneness within ourselves.

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. – Deuteronomy 6:4

May we each be powerfully upheld in innermost integrity as we humbly give ourselves over to God’s transforming work, over and over again. As we are set in the presence of our Lord, who is one!
