CHOSEN WITNESSES

Think of some of the most amazing events and experiences that you have ever been privileged enough to witness. Maybe you witnessed sincere and deep lasting love between a husband and wife – maybe even between your own mom and dad. Maybe you witnessed the birth of a precious child. Maybe you witnessed someone you loved, who was very sick, getting well. Maybe you witnessed someone you loved going home to be with Jesus.

Maybe you witnessed the beauty and majesty of God’s creation while at the ocean…or in the mountains…or along the rivers…or in endless, open fields…or at a canyon’s edge…or while watching a sunrise…or a sunset. Maybe you witnessed the amazing creatures of God in many places, in many activities – from your beloved pet to wild animals in their natural habitat. Maybe you witnessed the beauty and bounty of growing fruit and flowers, vegetation and trees. Maybe you witnessed (Finally!) your favorite team winning a championship game. Maybe you witnessed and experienced a really great meal with a really great friend.

From the life-changing to the life-gratifying, we are privileged to be witnesses to many amazing events and experiences over the course of our lifetimes. Yet, our Lord calls us to give witness to something far more amazing than anything else we could ever imagine: The Lord Himself!

“You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD, “and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior.”

Isaiah 43:10-11

To be the Lord’s chosen witness is a deep and personal invitation for each one of us to know and believe God. To know and understand that the Lord alone is our Savior. To be the Lord’s witness is to experience His love, His presence, His grace and His truth. We have been given the opportunity to witness and know God’s fullest revelation of Himself – His Son Jesus Christ.

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.                Colossians 1:15-20

It is Jesus Himself who, just before returning to heaven, gave this promise and commission.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” – Acts 1:8

We are called to know our God – our only Savior – and live as His chosen witnesses today!

In the love and peace, grace and truth of Jesus Christ,                                              Sylane
