TAKE HOLD OF MY HEAD, GOD! I WANT TO SLAP SOMEBODY!

There are days that I have to, loudly, clearly and a bit forcefully, make myself keep repeating what I call my Take Hold of My Head, God!Jesus Refrain. Which, at times, is the only thing keeping me refrained from slapping somebody!

Grace and Truth…Grace and Truth…Grace and Truth…Grace and Truth…

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. …grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. – John 1:14, 17

Grace and Truth…Grace and Truth…Grace and Truth…Grace and Truth…

Sometimes the evil in this world – the evil within us as individuals, the wars and rapes, the murder and brutality, the evil we inflict right within our own families, within our closest, most trusted relationships, and even within the Body of Christ – just overwhelms me. I shouldn’t be surprised. I’m not. Not really. I’ve counseled people for many years, and am intimately and personally aware of the ugly evil that comes from and pervades every life to some extent. So, no, the evil I am confronted with, from others and myself, is not a surprise to me. But I hate it!

The LORD looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. Do all these evildoers know nothing? They devour my people as though eating bread; they never call on the LORD. – Psalm 14:2-4

I know that the evil in this world – the prideful, ugly, lying, devouring, truth-twisting, cruel, adulterous, idolatrous, greedy, rebellious, self-centered, controlling, manipulative, dangerous, life-destroying evil – is not a surprise to God! This evil is exactly why Jesus – the One and Only, holy, righteous, pure Son of God – had to sacrifice His own life in order that we might be forgiven and become children of God. Jesus died for what is killing us: Sin. Jesus died for the sin that is killing our families, our relationships, our neighbors, our nations, our world.

That is the Grace and Truth…Grace and Truth…Grace and Truth…Grace and Truth…of Jesus Christ that is holding my head and keeping me from slapping somebody right now! Because the truth is, I am the one that somebody else may want to slap because of my sin – because of my own evil. And the grace is, Jesus has already died for my sins, and has set me free from the power of both sin and shame in my life!

That is the Grace and Truth…Grace and Truth…Grace and Truth…Grace and Truth…of Jesus Christ that is giving me peace, perspective, balance, willingness and strength to keep loving, to keep forgiving, to keep teaching, writing and counseling, to keep living in and sharing the love, salvation, freedom, power, healing and transformation that come through Jesus Christ alone!

May the Grace and Truth…Grace and Truth…Grace and Truth…Grace and Truth…of Jesus Christ take hold of each of our heads! And rule in each of our lives!

In the love and peace, grace and truth of Jesus Christ,                                              Sylane
