What goes through your mind when you first wake up? Okay, maybe, it’s not when you first get out of bed – got to give grace to all who are not morning people! (Give me grace for being one of those odd creatures!) Once your brain is functioning (after a cup of coffee or four), what are some of your first thoughts as you begin the new day? Do you immediately start thinking about all you have to get done? Do you just start doing the day by getting yourself on – on the phone, on-line, on email, on Facebook, on Twitter? Do you just start doing your day by getting yourself up and out? Up and out to care for little ones, to go to the gym, office, school, church, doctor’s appointment, or an early morning get-together with a friend or co-worker? Do your first waking thoughts immediately go into that Hamster Dance, circling over all the things and people that had filled your consciousness right up until you finally (and, maybe, fitfully) fell asleep last night?
Whatever our usual first waking thoughts are, our God reminds us of some of His fabulous truths for us to be aware of as we begin each new morning – and, even, every new moment!
…when I awake, I am still with you. – Psalm 139:18
In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. – Psalm 5:3
The LORD has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad. [This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.]– Psalm 118:24
Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things. – Philippians 4:8
Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23
Let’s choose to wake up – and wake up our minds – with awareness of these amazing and eternal truths from our God:
God is with us!
We are with God! We will never be left alone!
God hears us!
We can wait in expectant trust that God answers our prayers! In His good way!
This new day is a gift! That awareness should fill our hearts and minds with joy!
God is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy!
God’s love for us is great!
God’s compassions for us never fail! They are new every morning!
Wake up with awareness of God’s love, presence, peace, power and perspective! God and God’s truths will carry you through all that today brings!
