GOD’S STRENGTH FOR MY FEET

God’s strength offers us a power so far beyond ourselves that we have likely been astonished at (or maybe thankfully relieved and surprised at) the challenges we have been able to meet and the heights to which we have managed to climb when faced with tough, tiresome, terrible and terrifying circumstances.

I know that for me, when I look carefully and honestly at my life and the transforming journey God has taken me on, I can clearly see that it was God’s Sovereign love, wisdom and strength that placed my feet on His path and held me tightly the entire way. Each step of the way. One step at a time.

The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights. – Habakkuk 3:19

My God picked me up each time I fell down, and fell down again. God picked me up during those times when I stubbornly, pridefully, foolishly chose to go my own way instead of God’s good way. God picked me up during those times when I allowed the hurt and frustration caused by others or the pain and confusion I felt over my circumstances to knock me off my feet. My sovereign, loving Lord picked me up, cleaned me off, forgave me, calmed me, encouraged me, comforted me, confronted me, corrected me and, once again, offered me the fullness of His strength to get my feet back to walking along the heights. With Him!

With all my heart, I believe our God wants each of us to be able to scale the heights of all that would seem too daunting to overcome, too painful to endure, too challenging to conquer and too dark to redeem. With all my heart, I believe that we are able – as we yield ourselves to humbly and honestly acknowledge that we need God to enable us through His strength – to mount the masses of challenges we face and the messes we make in our lives.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.         Ephesians 3:20-21

May each of us be awed at, and outrageously thankful for, the strength and the power that our Almighty God gives to us! Each step of the way. One step at a time. To climb to the heights. With Him!
