There are so many things I cannot do. There are so many things I do not understand.
The truth of this is not meant to worry me or disturb me. It is meant, however, to keep me humble before our Lord. Always. And even as I’m humbled, this truth doesn’t weaken me or diminish me in any way. It’s God’s truth. And God’s truth never does that.
Rather, accepting this truth helps me to choose to trust my God, my Abba, even more with every part of my life.
Great is our LORD and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit. Psalm 147:5
What I cannot do in my own strength, I can completely trust over to God. Because I know if it lines up with God’s holy and loving plans and His perfect timing, then nothing can stop the Lord Almighty from bringing it to pass.
We all are called to remain in Jesus, and be filled with the strength that He gives us to do all that we could not possibly do on our own. And, oh! The fruit that grows from doing things in the strength of Jesus is beautiful, life-giving, life-transforming and eternal!
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5
I can do all things through him who gives me strength. – Philippians 4:13
While there is much that I am too limited to fully comprehend in my own thinking, I can still stand strong and have peace because I know that there is no limit to my Abba’s understanding. And, even though none of us will ever have full understanding of so very many things on this side of heaven, our Holy God still desires us to ask for His wisdom – which He promises to give to us generously.
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. – James 1:5
Yes, there are many things we cannot do in our own strength. There are many things we do not understand in our own limited perception and perspective. May the truth of this free us up, and grow us up, to depend on and trust more and more fully in our Holy God’s unfailing love, mighty power and unlimited wisdom!
