We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin;
the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him.
We know that we are children of God,
and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.
We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding,
so that we may know him who is true.
And we are in him who is true – even in his Son Jesus Christ.
He is the true God and eternal life.
Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.
1 John 5:18-21
We know that because of our faith in Jesus Christ we have become children of God. And as children born into eternal life through the sacrifice of Jesus and His victorious resurrection, we know that the power of the evil one no longer has control over us. Nor can the evil one harm us in any soul damaging or damning way. We know that as children of God, our true and eternal lives are sealed and kept safe forever in our Heavenly Abba’s love and care.
We know that we have been given the Spirit of the Living Christ to lead us away from deliberately choosing to stay in the habit and lifestyle of sin. We know that the Spirit empowers us and renews us so that we may choose God’s good and loving, beautiful and freeing ways.
We know that Jesus came to us so we could understand the Father’s great love for us and intimately know Him as the One who is true. We know that our lives are now secure in our God, through our Lord Jesus Christ – the true God and eternal life.
We know that as God’s children we are to keep ourselves from any and everything that would become an idol for us. We know that we are to turn away from any and every influence and activity that would become more important to us than our Lord Jesus Christ.
We know all of this because Jesus, the Eternal Word made flesh, has humbly and sacrificially revealed the incredible and unfailing love and power, grace and truth that our Heavenly Father has for each and every one of us!
So? If we know these eternal truths, how will we live out the truth of them now?
In what ways will we choose to think, speak, act and interact more like who we truly are in our Lord Jesus Christ – children born of the Most High God?
What sins are we still deliberately choosing and, thereby, silencing God’s Spirit as we do?
In what areas of our lives do we need to trust God more fully as the One who loves us and is able to keep us safe from all things that would destroy our eternal hope, peace and joy?
Who or what has become an idol to us? Who or what do we need to release, and be released, from ruling over our desires, energy, time and resources?
We know that in Jesus we are children born of the Spirit and loved for all eternity! We know that “not anything in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” – Romans 8:39.
So? Let’s live like we know! And through us, others will come to know the One who is true!
In love, peace and purposeful passion,
