There are times, sometimes seemingly unceasing, when the pressure and responsibility of our life, family, work, and other commitments can completely overwhelm us. There are times when the deep sadness and crushing distress we walk through can absolutely overtake us. Our own inclination to sin seems to always be right there ready to consume us. Our hearts are broken, and we, too often, feel powerless to help those who suffer the ravages of poverty, hunger, natural disasters, abuse of every kind, and where the lives, homes and security of innocents are ripped apart by violence, greed, cruelty and evil. And the hard truth, whether we admit it or deny it, is that death will not be escaped by any of us on this side of heaven.
But! That is not the end of the story! That is not the end of this life’s hope! That is not the end of life’s path for those who trust in the Lord – for those who trust in our Mighty God who ransoms and redeems, renews and restores our lives!
The ransomed of the LORD will return.
They will enter Zion with singing;
everlasting joy will crown their heads.
Gladness and joy will overtake them,
and sorrow and sighing will flee away.
Even now, no matter what pressures or sadness, ugly realities or fears you may be facing, let your heart, head and spirit be filled with God’s transcending peace and hope! Because we, who have put our faith in our Lord Jesus as the ransom for our lives, have received God’s sure promise that we will enter into His presence with singing! Everlasting joy will crown our heads! Gladness and joy will overtake us! Sorrow and sighing will flee away!
Let everything, except God’s absolute promise of your ransomed life in Christ, be set aside in your thinking right now.
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness
and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,
in whom we have forgiveness, the forgiveness of sins…
For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in Christ,
and through him to reconcile to himself all things,
whether things on earth or things in heaven
by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
Colossians 1:13-14, 19-20
Let yourself breathe in God’s love, God’s renewing life breath. Let everything within your mind, body, heart, and soul be overtaken by joy in the presence and promises of our “Wonderful Counselor, our Mighty God, our Everlasting Father, our Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).
God’s promises are sure. Be overtaken by joy! And overtake the darkness of this broken world by sharing God’s love, hope, and joy with all those around you!
In love, peace and purposeful passion,
