OUR UNCHANGING GOD

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Hebrews 13:8

How thankful I am that our God, our Holy Lord, our King and Savior Jesus is always the same. How thankful I am that our God, our Holy Lord, our King and Savior Jesus never changes.

This is not true for me or for you. This is not true for my circumstances or yours. This is not true for my world or yours. Because our circumstances and our world do not stay the same. Our circumstances and our world change.

And sometimes we, and our circumstances, and our world change in wonderful, exciting, adventurous ways. And sometimes in shocking, frightening, helpless ways.

Today is September 11, a day marking one more anniversary, since 2001, of the horrendous acts of terrorism and the murder of thousands of innocent people in New York City, Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon in Washington, DC.

Many of us still feel the loss of loved ones whose lives were claimed that day. Many of us know and care for others whose lives and families, hopes and dreams were devastatingly affected by these evil acts. Others of us can clearly remember the shock and sadness this day brought as incomprehensible hatred and cruelty seemed to change our circumstances and our world instantaneously – without our foreknowledge and without our ability to stop it.

And for a while many people throughout many nations and, certainly, here in the United States, experienced a deep and sudden change in our circumstances and in our world, and even in our immediate priorities and plans. Our sense of security in life as we knew it was destroyed. Our sense of hope and our expectations for what that beautiful, bright, sunny September day should have been, were completely shattered.

Our only lasting security, our only unfailing hope, and our only true peace are found only in our unchanging God. Only in God’s love. Only in God’s transcending peace. Only in the salvation offered to us as Jesus sacrificed His holy life for the forgiveness of our sins. Only in Christ’s resurrection and His promised gift of eternal life with Him. Everything else changes.

Take a moment to remember September 11, 2001, if you can. And if you can’t, remember the truth that everything, except our unchanging God, changes.

Maybe it’s a good day for each of us to make some changes.

Take time to thank God for your life.

Take time to thank God for this day.

Take time to let others know how very much you love them.

Take time to let others know how thankful you are to have them in your lives.

Take time to be kind.

Take time to forgive.

Take time to live.

Take time to laugh.

Take time to love!

In love, peace and purposeful passion,

Sylane
