SPIRITUAL DWARFS – part 9 – WHAT TO DO?

Oh! Those Spiritual Dwarfs: Prideful, Fearful, Sinful, Shameful, Whiny, Grumpy and Dopey! And all their evil friends, of so many other names: Lustful, Forceful, Two-Face-ful, Disgraceful, Sneaky, Meany, Nasty, Crabby, Lazy, Busy…on and on! They all wreak horrible havoc within our hearts, souls, minds, bodies and relationships.

What are we ever going to do? Those Spiritual Dwarfs just keep yapping, shouting and telling us that we have a right to choose to think what we think, do what we do, and live how we live. Quite honestly, the Spiritual Dwarfs are right in this one way: We do have a choice. Always.

It was God’s loving, sovereign choice to give each of us the gift of freedom of choice. But! We must be wise with this precious gift! Choosing anything other than God’s way is no freedom at all. Turning our backs on God, and our focus on ourselves, is an ugly, vicious, evil, lying trap. This LFTPOH (Lie From The Pit Of Hell) would have us believe that the ultimate way to assert our independence, freedom and control over our own lives is to create our own standards for right and wrong – according to what we think and what we do and how we live.

This is a deadly lie. Our God wants us to live! The battle for our hearts, souls, minds, bodies and relationships has always been about life and death. Right from the beginning, in the Garden of Eden we were each given a choice: Believe our Loving Creator-Eternal God, take God at God’s Word, and live or ignore and disobey God’s Word and die. God made this gift of choice so clear to His people as He led them out of slavery and into the Promised Land.

I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses.

Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that

you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him.

For the LORD is your life

Deuteronomy 30:19-20

It has always been about choice. We need to realize that everything we think, say and do is either bringing more life or more death to our minds, bodies, souls and relationships. It is in choosing to listen to, obey and “hold fast to” the loving, life-giving Word of God that we are able to kill the Spiritual Dwarfs and live! Our God is our life! Our God is our freedom!

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then,

and do not let yourselves be burdened again be a yoke of slavery!

Galatians 5:1

I am convinced that God and God’s Word are life and freedom to me. They are my song. They are my breath. They are the guardians of my heart, soul, mind, body and relationships.

Jesus has already died and risen to conquer the influence and lies of all that is evil – from outside of us and within us – that would hold us in bondage and kill us! The choice is still, and always will be, about life and death: Ours or the Spiritual Dwarfs. What to do? Kill the Dwarfs!
